A custom build comes with a budget, technical choices and a few traps. Better to know them going in.

Ownership and independence

Do I really own my site’s code?

Yes. The code goes into a repository in your name, and you receive access to the hosting and the domain name. You keep the use and ownership of it after the project ends.

Can I switch web providers without starting over?

Yes. The code is delivered with documentation, on widely used technology, so another developer or your own team can take it over. No Nualt-specific tool is needed to run the project.

What does open source change for my site or software?

The building blocks the project relies on, like Medusa, Next.js or Payload, are public and maintained by large communities. Using them requires no subscription, and their future doesn’t depend on a single vendor. The code written for your project stays private and belongs to you.

Where is the data for my site or AI agents hosted?

With the host chosen together during the project, based on your constraints on cost, traffic and data location. For AI agents, models can run on your own infrastructure, so your data never has to go to an outside provider.

Project and process

How long does it take to build a custom ecommerce site or SaaS?

Between two weeks and three months, depending on scope. A marketing site sits at the low end of that range, an ecommerce store with a migration or a SaaS closer to the top. The timeline is set during scoping.

What is scoping for in a web project?

Scoping sets down in writing the scope, priorities, schedule and price before development begins. It serves as the reference for the whole project.

How do I follow the development progress?

A testable version is updated every week. You check what has been built and give feedback as the project goes.

Will my team be able to edit the site itself?

Yes. Content is managed from an admin interface, and the project ends with training your team to use it. For technical teams, the training also covers deployment and changes to the code.

Costs

How much does a custom ecommerce site or SaaS cost?

The price depends on the scope, the number of integrations with your existing tools and any data migration. It is set at the end of scoping and only changes if the scope changes at your request.

How much does hosting a custom site cost?

Between 0 and 200 euros a month in most cases, depending on traffic. A marketing site often costs next to nothing, a high-volume ecommerce store more. These fees are paid directly to the host.

Do I need a maintenance contract after launch?

Nualt doesn’t offer monthly maintenance contracts. Routine operations are documented for your team, and larger changes become a new project, with us or with another provider.

Should I choose Shopify, WordPress or a custom build?

Shopify and WordPress suit many projects, especially early on. Custom becomes worthwhile when subscription fees and commissions eat into your margins, or when the platform can’t support a way of working you need. Scoping also helps settle this question.

Technical

Can you migrate a Shopify, PrestaShop or Magento store?

Yes. Products, customers and order history are moved to Medusa, and redirects are set up to preserve your search rankings.

Which AI models work for an agent hosted in-house?

Open models, hosted on your infrastructure or with a host of your choice. The model is chosen during scoping, based on the task, the volume and the budget.

Does a custom site rank well in search?

Yes, when its structure is designed for it. Tags, page hierarchy, performance and core content are handled from the start of development.
